New Delhi, November 7, 2025 – In a significant boost to India’s power infrastructure, state-owned engineering giant Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has announced the receipt of a major contract valued at over ₹6,650 crore from NTPC Limited.
According to a regulatory filing submitted to the stock exchanges, BHEL has received a Notification of Award (NOA) for a full Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) package. The contract is for the development of the 1×800 MW Darlipati Supercritical Thermal Power Project, Stage-II, located in the Sundargarh district of Odisha.

Key Project Details:
- Project Scope: The contract is a comprehensive EPC package, which includes design, engineering, supply of equipment, civil works, as well as erection and commissioning of the power plant.
- Execution Timeline: BHEL is required to achieve “Completion of Facilities” (COF) within 48 months from the date of the award notification, which was issued on November 6, 2025.
- Contract Value: The order is valued at over ₹6,650 Crore (excluding GST), making it one of the most substantial domestic power sector contracts recently.
- Bidding Process: The award was made through an International Competitive Bidding process, underscoring the project’s scale and technical requirements.
Both BHEL and NTPC are Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) under the Government of India. The filing clarified that this contract does not qualify as a “Related Party Transaction,” ensuring that the award was made on an arm’s length basis.
This order marks a continued partnership between two of India’s largest public sector undertakings and is a strong positive for BHEL’s order book. It reinforces the company’s dominant position in the engineering and power project execution space in India. The successful completion of this 800 MW supercritical thermal unit will contribute significantly to meeting the growing energy demands of the nation.
