NEW YORK – Vogue has named Chloe Malle its new editor-in-chief, succeeding the iconic Anna Wintour. The announcement, made Tuesday, ends months of speculation about who would fill the role held by the highly influential Wintour.

Malle, 39, is no stranger to a world of high achievement. She is the daughter of actress Candice Bergen and the late acclaimed director Louis Malle.

The appointment carries a notable pop culture connection. Candice Bergen famously played Enid Frick, the editor-in-chief of Vogue, in the fourth, fifth, and sixth seasons of “Sex and the City,” as well as in the 2008 film and its recent sequel series, “And Just Like That…”

Showrunner Michael Patrick King, who brought the character back for the new series, previously expressed his admiration for Bergen’s portrayal, calling Enid a “cold, wonderful diva of publishing.”

Wintour herself is a pop culture fixture, widely believed to be the inspiration for the formidable editor Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep in the 2006 film “The Devil Wears Prada.” A sequel to that hit movie is also in development.

Malle now steps into one of the most prestigious positions in fashion, tasked with leading the publication into its next chapter.
